The role of women in the world is intricately integrated within all layers of society, for it is undeniable that women`s political, social and economic rights is an inseparable part of their basic human rights. However, the inclusion of women in decision-making processes, specifically in the political sphere, remains highly unsatisfactory. The integration of women in elective and non- elective public positions should rightfully be in the same equal proportions as men. Democracy is hollow if women are not able to participate meaningfully, and their roles are restricted to only casting their votes. In the context of Malaysia, women`s political participation is at a dismal state. The structural, cultural, and socio-economic constraints empowerment in the country in turn lead to limited achievements in women`s political representation. Female politicians and public figures in Malaysia are often subjected to prejudiced and derogatory remarks Malaysia`s by their male counterparts. This paper intends to discuss and scrutinize the aforementioned barriers in the political arena, and focus on the policies and activism to increase descriptive and substantive women representation in Malaysia. The measures needed in place to ensure that women leaders are not discriminated against will also be deliberated. Only with the meaningful participation of women in international, national, and community leadership roles that a comprehensive and inclusive global development policy could be developed.
