Sriburapha is a Thai writer who lived during the period of economical, social and political changes that began from the middle of the 19th century. Though democracy was introduced in 1932 as the best policy for the independence of Thailand. there were many problems in the Thai society which was originated from the different consciousness of the Thai people; the educated and the unedu-cated. the nobleman and the commoner, the old nobleman and new nobleman. and the rich and the poor. And there were still the feud and confrontation, which was like the vestiges of the feudal system in the Thai society such as the gulf between the rich and the poor, a desire of the youngsters who just awoke to the democratization, and inspections from the military government.
The time when he studied at Thepsirin, he was eager to make school newspapers and magazines. He also formed a literary group called Suphabburus and issued the literary coterie magazine with his friend in Thepsirin. During this period. he led the literatures of which it mostly criticized the reality of the Thai society and showed how to work out the problems by themselves in his novels.
He tried to reflect the thai society as it was and as it is. He mainly emphasized the importance of the modern education in Lukphuchai, the thought of humanism and the equality if human beings in Songkramchiwid, and the value of love and marriage and adaptation themselves to the change of times in Khanglangphab,
He insists the mutual understanding and of working together as a means of settling those problems.
We can say that the novels of Sriburapha are the literatures of the humanism, which focus the equality of human beings as well as the democracy with the awareness of ownership of their country.
